HxBIA’s new signature event, Experience Hastings Crossing, starts tomorrow. We are so excited for you to get to know the local HxBIA business members and all of the great organizations at work in the Downtown Eastside.
Make sure to stop by ZeroZero Pizzeria this Saturday. They will be offering a feature pizza with part of the proceeds going to CleanStart. CleanStart is a social enterprise that believes everyone should have the opportunity to work. They provide training and employment to those who face barriers to employment.
If you are in the mood for more treats, visit Cartems Donuterie. You can support Hives for Humanity by purchasing their honey and candles at the Pender street location. Hives for Humanity works to build community in the DTES through beekeeping. Their honey products, which on top of being some of the best in the city, support their therapeutic programming for community residents. Hives for Humanity is one of Cartems Donuterie’s regular local suppliers, so make sure to try one of the donuts made with their honey.
Delicious food isn’t the only option – for the duration of Experience Hastings Crossing, if you purchase a gift card from Opus Art Supplies, they will donate the same amount to Enterprising Women Making Art. EWMA blends art, community and social entrepreneurship to offer meaningful self-employment to women who experience barriers to traditional employment. They work to empower women artists and artisans in the DTES.
We can’t wait to share some more of the great partnerships taking place over the next week and a half. For more details and a full list of participating businesses and organizations visit our event page hxbia.com/experience.
And don’t miss the CRAWL happening Friday, February 17! Our host with the most, Wes Regan will take us to four local businesses and you’ll have a chance to learn about their partnerships and partake in some tasty food and treats. The event is free, but we request that you RSVP here!
