Time for a pocket market in Victory Square Park?

This past Saturday Hastings Crossing BIA partnered with Olla Flowers, Farmers on 57th, Floral and Hardy, Bathtub Gardens, Okanagan Fair Flowers, Strathcona 1890 Urban Seeds, Truckfarm.ca and Vancouver Ikebana Society to host a great little flower festival on the second day of summer. A steady flow of folks wandered into Victory Square Park, where tents filled with amazing floral arrangements and locally grown fresh veggies from Urban Farms. See the photos at the bottom of this post.

Live music was provided by the Barefoot Bandits, a fantastic trio (a quartet less one bass player) whose material evoked a Django Reinhardt, Edith Piaff feel. It was perfect for the day.

One of the questions asked by several of the festival goers was “are you going to do this again?” while some others asked if it was going to be a regular weekend thing in the area. That got us thinking. Maybe it could….maybe it should.

So we’re going to look into whether or not we can create a Victory Square Park Pocket Market featuring urban farmed veggies and local, fair trade, wild or organic flowers. Let us know if you think that sounds like a good idea. It would be once a month from June to September. It would look something similar to this:
