Action Committees

The HxBIA Action Committees are where the work to improve our community gets done. These committees act as advisory bodies to the board of directors and are comprised of HxBIA members, board members, and community members.

Art & Activation Committee

The Art and Activation Committee supports beautification and activation in the Hastings Crossing area. The committee’s scope includes planning and implementing creative placemaking initiatives, including but not limited to temporary installations in empty storefronts, murals, public art, community events, and other activation activities that enhance the vibrancy and uniqueness of the HxBIA area. This committee is open to HxBIA and community members.

 

Community Connections Committee

The Community Connections Committee fosters relationships between property owners, businesses, social enterprises and non-profit organizations in the HxBIA area. The committee’s scope includes identifying possible partnerships, creating opportunities for connection and fostering reciprocal relationships that benefit both business and community in the HxBIA area. The Committee also supports marketing and promotion efforts for HxBIA and supports the planning and implementation of the annual Experience Hastings Crossing event. This committee is open to HxBIA and community members.

 

Safety Committee

The Safety Committee supports HxBIA by developing projects related to the safety of the community, general public, businesses, properties, and residents. This includes, but is not limited to spearheading initiatives around community navigator patrols, member training sessions (e.g. de-escalation, naloxone), vandalism grant programs, and other innovative and community-driven solutions. Special emphasis is put on fostering connections between the Downtown Eastside community and member organizations and their employees who commute to work in this area. This committee meets monthly and is open to HxBIA and community members.

 

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee’s work includes but is not limited to reviewing and recommending updates to policies, bylaws and procedures that govern the BIA, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and supporting the Board in maintaining best practices in governance. This committee is a sub-committee of the HxBIA Board of Directors only.

 

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee’s mandate is to provide more in-depth financial oversight, guide strategic planning and offer more day-to-day operational support to the Executive Director. This committee is a sub-committee of the HxBIA Board of Directors only.
