HxBIA, in partnership with Mission Possible, aims to create a safer community through the use of MP Neighbours Community-based solution to safety and security.
MP Neighbours is a social enterprise that provides tailored safety services throughout the City of Vancouver. Community Navigators complete regular routes in the Hastings Crossing BIA providing outreach and referral services to people experiencing homelessness, and checking in with businesses. They aim to build bridges between these diverse groups to foster common understanding and healthy neighbourhoods.
The residents employed through the MP Neighbours program have a cultural sensitivity for the area. This allows them to better assist businesses in diffusing situations that they may not know how to deal with. In addition, every year millions of dollars in taxes are spent on first responders in Vancouver – tax dollars that could be spent on many other things. In this way, the MP Neighbours program is a preventative model. In making use of the MP Neighbours program, businesses can also prevent a potential situation where a first responder may need to be called.
How to access MP Neighbours:
The Neighbours Team makes rounds Monday to Fridays throughout our BIA (Twice a day AM & PM). They help member businesses who need assistance with de-escalation, safety incidents, and wellness checks. They also report cleanliness issues including needles, garbage, and graffiti.

The Gastown Hastings Crossing Community Policing Centre (GHXCPC) is a community-led, volunteer-powered non-profit that promotes safety and fosters connection in the Gastown and Hastings Crossing area. Operating in partnership with the
City of Vancouver and supported by the Vancouver Police Department, the GHXCPC offers the following programs:

Volunteer-led foot patrols
Road safety education
Community cleanups
Outreach and engagement with residents and businesses
Safety workshops and resource events
The GHXCPC works alongside residents, local businesses, law enforcement, and service providers to foster trust, reduce crime, and support safer, more connected neighbourhood
