(Vancouver—August 11) Music Waste and CiTR 101.9FM are pleased to present the 11th annual Victory Square Block Party on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 2-9p.m. This free event invites music fans from across the Lower Mainland to Victory Square Park (Cambie St and W Hastings St) to celebrate the end of summer and support non-profit media organizations with a splurge of local bands.
“Everything is set for us to have an unforgettable festival this year,” says Victory Square Block Party and Music Waste organizer Mark Richardson. “The line-up is really musically diverse and shows the variety of different sounds you can find in Vancouver’s independent music scene right now. It’s a great way for people to support Vancouver musicians as well as CiTR and Megaphone Magazine, all for free.”
With performances from Woolworm, Ramzi, Other Jesus, Cave Girl, Gal Gracen, Fake Tears, Whitney K, and Twin River, the line‐up features a set of artists from Vancouver’s current independent music scene that would not be found at any other event. DJs Owen Ellis and bb.yu will spin music throughout the day, filling the space between bands and Miss Christie Lee from Musqueam will be doing an opening celebration for the event. On-air personalities from CiTR will be on-site to emcee and interview bands as part of an all-day live broadcast on 101.9 FM and streaming at www.citr.ca. Local business What’s up? Hot Dog! will be selling hot dogs created especially for the event.
Continuing its tradition of supporting community media in Vancouver, partial sponsorship and raffle proceeds will be donated to Megaphone, a magazine sold on the streets of Vancouver by homeless and low‐income vendors, and CiTR 101.9FM, Vancouver’s independent community and campus-based broadcaster.
“The Block Party exists to support awesome community-based organizations and exciting new music coming out of Vancouver,” says Sarah Cordingley, Music Director at CiTR. “CiTR is always happy to be a part of it, and Vancouver wouldn’t be the same without it.”
Since 2004, the Block Party has become a staple of Vancouver’s independent music scene, and of the Labour Day weekend. Remaining committed to local talent, the Block Party counts bands such as Pink Mountaintops, The Unicorns, White Lung, Slam Dunk, and The Pack A.D. among its alumni.
The 2015 Victory Square Block Party promises to be an unforgettable event. We would like to thank our sponsors for helping to make this event possible: Champion Sponsor What’s Up? Hot Dog!
